Eight VLC paddlers selected to represent Gauteng – Germiston City News


The Gauteng Marathon Championship races were held at Lake Germiston with the singles (K1) races on May 28 and the doubles (K2) races on May 29.

This race served as a platform to select those who will represent Gauteng at the upcoming championships.
Helene Janse van Vuuren was among the names identified and selected to represent the Gauteng Canoe Union at the upcoming South African Marathon Championships to be held in KwaZulu-Natal at Hazelmere from June 16-18.

Colin Ledwaba and Brandon Little of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club finished the race in two hours and one minute as the third seniors.

Other VLC paddlers who were selected to represent Gauteng at the next SA were U8 Kaylen Armdorf, U12 An-Che Greyling, U12 Bokomoso Nhlapo, Ethan Sanoke, Kyle Armdorf, U14 Sinenhlanhla Twala, Ntando Ndlovu, Rendani Ndou and U18 being Helen Jansen van Vuuren.

Helen and her partner Caitlyn Evans won the U18 girls’ race in a time of 2:02, as the first female and first female U18 to cross the finish line, even though the weather was windy and the conditions crashing, they raced do their best.
Colin Ledwaba and Brandon Little of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club also finished the race finishing in 2:01 hours as the third seniors.

Several other club VLC paddlers also had a successful run, including U8s Kaylen Armdorf finishing the 2km in 18:18 minutes, and U12s Ethan Sanole and Bokamoso Nhlapo finishing second and third in their 6km race in 36 minutes. .14 ​​and 38.31 minutes respectively.

Other members of the club also participated in the U12 and U14 K2 (doubles) junior race including An-che Greyling and Kyle Armdorf who completed their 6 km race in 34:10 minutes and Ntando Lungelo Ndlovu with Rendani Ndou who is came third among the U14s in a time of 41.46 minutes.
