Fourways residents among Dabulamanzi Canoe Club members who completed the canoe marathon


A father and son Fourways were among the paddlers in Dabulamanzi Canoe Club at Emmarentia who headed to Cradock in the Eastern Cape where they took part in the Fish River Canoe Marathon.

The event took place at Grassridge Dam Cape and paddlers tackled 80km of wild water and plenty of challenging rapids over two days.
Gauteng Canoe Union Media Liaison Jennie Dallas said: “While there were some top finishers from the local Gauteng club at Emmarentia Dam, Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, there were also father and son combinations. …

“Kelvin Byres and his 15-year-old son Jordan Byres of Fourways enjoyed the thrilling whitewater challenge while family friend Mark Garden completed the kayak threesome. [K3] which provides excellent stability to take novice or less experienced paddlers through the exciting challenges of rough wild water.
The K3 trio finished the two-day 80km event in 05:31:12 to place second overall in the category.
