Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]Apr 02 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council held a Kayaking and Canoeing Marathon for the first time at Jhelum in Srinagar, attended by about 30 kayaking and canoeing players.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of Sports Council of Jammu and Kashmir said, “This event has been organized as part of ‘My Youth, My Pride’ where we organize different activities for youth engagement across the territory. of the Union of Jammu and Kashmir. I urge the society to join hands and help keep the youth away from drugs.”
The marathon started from zero bridge at Habba Kadal bridge in Jhelum which was reported by the secretary along with other senior JK administration officers.
Mubbasher Hussain, a marathon participant, said, “Such events should be organized regularly as it will motivate the children in the valley to learn various water sports and make it a career in the future.
Another participant said: “The marathon gives a boost to the sport because the people of the valley become aware and the players also get a boost by participating in such events.”
Usually, kayaking and canoeing events are held in Dal Lake and this is the first time such an event is held in Jhelum in Kashmir Valley. Hundreds of locals watched this marathon from the banks of the Jhelum. (ANI)
