Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council organized for the first time a kayaking and canoeing marathon at Jhelum in Srinagar in which about 30 kayaking and canoeing players participated.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of Sports Council of Jammu and Kashmir said, “This event was organized as part of ‘My Youth, My Pride’ where we organize different activities for youth engagement across the territory. of the Union of Jammu and Kashmir. I urge society to join hands and help keep young people away from drugs.
The marathon started from zero bridge at Habba Kadal bridge in Jhelum which was reported by the secretary along with other senior JK administration officers.
Mubbasher Hussain, a marathon participant, said, “Such events should be organized regularly as it will motivate the children in the valley to learn various water sports and make it a career in the future.
Another participant said: “The marathon gives the sport a boost because the people of the valley become aware and the players too get a boost by participating in such events.”
Usually, kayaking and canoeing events are held in Dal Lake and this is the first time such an event is held in Jhelum in Kashmir Valley. Hundreds of locals watched this marathon from the banks of the Jhelum.
