Unfortunately, heavy rain on Friday and Saturday led to the cancellation of Maritzburg College cricket matches for the weekend, and only the school’s water polo teams traveled to Durban to take on the Glenwood Grasshoppers.
Earlier in the week, College played tennis and squash matches. In addition, the boys also did very well in the Dash & Crash on the Umgeni before the Dusi Canoe Marathon.
Several of our boys competed in the 2022 Dash & Crash 17K, supported by College Coach, Bridgitte Hartley.
College took top honors by winning the K1 U18 race thanks to Joshua Glyn-Cuthbert, while second place in the U14 category went to Scott Venniker.
The Top 8 squash team played Glenwood midweek and put in a remarkable performance with each of the players winning their respective matches. College recorded a well-deserved 8-0 win.
The College teams had midweek encounters against St Charles, Kearsney and Hilton College with convincing wins for the A teams.
College fielded eight teams against Glenwood over the weekend, with six wins, one draw and one loss.
The 1st team match had an intense start with both teams trading goals.
With the score 2-2 at the end of the first chukka. At the end of the second half, Glenwood managed a 4-goal lead and were able to extend it slightly late in the game. College fought hard to come back but it wasn’t enough and lost 7-13.
