Malaysia Canoe Association (MASCA) President Datuk Michael Wong Meng San (pictured) made the nation proud when he was elected Chairman of the Asian Dragon Boat and Director of the Board of Directors of the Asian Canoe Confederation (ACC) for the term of 2022 to 2024.

Aged 44, he is the youngest officer on the ACC Board of Directors.

Under his leadership, the Malaysian Dragon Boat Team continues to grow in the Southeast Asian region.

Meng San will lead the dragon boat team at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and the SEA Games in Cambodia, where he believes Malaysia will be able to achieve its goal and vision.

“I hope to promote this traditional sport in Malaysia, spread traditional Chinese culture within the nation, and also ensure that dragon boat sports are continuously popularized, not being left behind by the new generation,” said Meng San, now MASCA. president in 2020.

Meng San is also excited about a big plan to establish an Asian dragon boat center in Malaysia.

“Few of the sites being considered are in Putrajaya, Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim and Kompleks Sukan Air Pagor, Johor,” he said.

“Dragon boating is a traditional sport derived from China. However, dragon boating is gaining popularity in Malaysia, not only among the Chinese, but also among other races.
