ELKRUN TWP. – For anyone who lives in or near Elkton and wants to spend a quiet morning or evening walking along a small path, Elkton Community Park is the perfect place to go. With several walking paths in the small park, it offers perfect opportunities for exercising or taking pets on short outings. The park’s trails also connect to the North Country Trail, which stretches from New York to North Dakota and is one of the longest cross-country ski trails in the country.

The land used to build the park was originally a floodplain that was bought out by the government and given to the Township of Elkrun. After allocating their grant money last year, the Elkrun Township Tourism Bureau discovered that they had money and “decided to do something for the community” according to Bureau member Phyllis French. Many trees and benches in the park bear memorial plaques paid for by families who wish their loved ones to be remembered. Many plants and trees around the park were also planted by hand by Bureau members. They have also built a veterans memorial in the park, commemorating all of our military heroes, and are in the process of having plaques made for Elkton veterans.

The park is located on Middle Beaver Road, between Lisbon and Elkton, and is right next to the canoe access and parking area of Beaver Creek State Park.
