A group of People’s Democratic Party members in Ekiti State, the PDP Patriots, on Wednesday urged the party’s State Working Committee led by Interim President Lanre Omolase to effectively take charge of the left to put things back in place. prospect of repositioning him for victory in the next election.
Acting President of the PDP Patriots, Bayo Awogbemi; and secretary, Bola Agboola, who said the party’s defeat in the June 18 gubernatorial election in Ekiti left a bitter taste in the mouths of party members, expressed the group’s willingness to rise to the occasion by channeling energy to mend fences among PDP stakeholders with a view to restoring the glory of the party to Ekiti and beyond.
Awogbemi and Agboola, in a statement titled “Aftermath of Ekiti 2022: Emerging PDP Patriots, Pledge to Restore Party Glory” released after the group’s meeting in Ado Ekiti, said it was time for true PDP lovers take up the challenge by raising their voices.
He said, “To this end, the PDP Patriots insist on the need for the SWC to take over and paddle the party canoe at this crucial time and this commitment to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the quest of the PDP to save Nigeria from the clutches of the All Progressives Congress and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) remains sacrosanct.
Former Governor Ayodele Fayose served as the party leader in charge of its affairs.
But Awogemi and Agboola said: “We reviewed our party’s performance in the last election, we know where our leaders went wrong, but even though we don’t want to wash our dirty laundry in public, we swore we wouldn’t. never again fold their arms, allow them to take the driver’s seat and crash the vehicle.
“The PDP Patriots are ready to ensure that the activities in Ekiti are put into perspective, we will mobilize human and capital resources to ensure that PDP regains its place of pride.
“Initially, our party was an association that was nourished by respect for divergent opinions, tolerance for diversity and passion for human and capitalistic development; it is obvious that the Ekiti PDP today has taken a path completely antagonistic to these ethos. The PDP Patriots will now provide a detour,” they said.
