Road closures announced for Sunday’s Hartford Marathon races in Middletown

The event is a family-friendly Halloween run and walk, according to a press release.

The race circles the Wesleyan University campus and will include a FitKids race for children. Costumes are encouraged. Race day events will include a costume contest and post-race treats. Pre- and post-race activities will take place at the south end of Main Street around Union Green, according to the press release.


The FitKids race begins at 10:45 a.m. on Old Church Street. The 10k and 5k races start at 11:30 a.m. on High Street near Wesleyan University and will circle campus and finish on Old Church Street. Free parking will be available on race day at Melilli Plaza and Dingwall Drive lots.

People should expect traffic delays, detours and road closures on race day. Roads will be affected between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. They include: Old Church Street, Main Street (one lane southbound), Williams Street, High Street, Washington Terrace, Vine Street, Long Lane Street, Wadsworth Street, Pine Street and Church Street west of High Street.

Many side streets will be barricaded and officers or volunteers will be at fixed posts along the route. Where possible, police will direct cross-traffic to accommodate motorists. Roads will reopen as runners pass, according to the city.
