By Ruben Morales Iglesias: Belize’s largest canoe race, the Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2022 begins Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. under the Hawkesworth Bridge in San Ignacio. The 177-mile race takes place over four days and ends Monday past the Belcan Bridge in Belize City.

There was no race in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the race had just been organized when the country entered confinement at the end of March.

From Hawksworth Bridge in San Ignacio, the first leg will travel to Banana Bank on Friday, March 4.

Stage 2 will travel from Banana Bank to Double Head Cabbage on Saturday March 5th.

On Sunday, March 6, the Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge moves from Double Head Cabbage to Henderson Bank in Burrell Boom.

The final leg will take place on Monday, March 7, from Burrell Boom to Belize City ending with Belize City Center.
