Several roads to be closed in Norwalk for Sunday road races


NORWALK – More than 20 roads and intersections will be closed or experience delays on Sunday as the SoNo Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K race through the city.

The races, scheduled for Sunday morning, will be held across the city, including Veterans Park, Calf Pasture Beach, along Flax Hill Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to the the road map.

the roads that will be closed 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. are: Washington Street, Stroffolino Bridge, Water Street from Hanford to Haviland, South Main Street from Monroe to Washington, and westbound traffic on Fort Point past Van Zant Street.

The roads that will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. are Ann Street, North Main Street and Marshall Street.

North Water Street will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Seaview Avenue eastbound will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to noon. East Avenue from Cemetery to Seaview will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be no northbound traffic on Flax Hill Road past Taylor Avenue from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and no southbound traffic on Cove Avenue from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., according to the race website.

Residents should expect delays on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., Wilson Avenue from 8:40 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., McKinley Street and Roton Avenue from 8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m., Highland Avenue from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Michael Street and Soundview Avenue from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., Flax Hill Road from 9:10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. and Cemetery Street from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Martin Luther King Drive will have a lane reserved for runners. Drivers are asked to pay attention to signs and stay in the designated lane. People who live, work or visit any of the aforementioned cross streets, it is advisable to allow extra time to reach their destination.
