SHELBURNE FALLS — The village will once again resonate with the holiday spirit during the 36th annual Moonlight Magic.

The community party will light up the village on Friday, November 25 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“The night is very magical,” said event organizer Amanda Carter. “There’s a lot of spirit in the air.”

The festivities will begin with two parades, one on foot featuring Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and the other by non-motorized boat on the Deerfield River. People will march through the streets at 5 p.m. starting at The Mill in Shelburne Falls, then down Conway Street to Bridge Street, ending at the Senior Center where Santa’s Workshop will be in full swing.

The boat parade is sponsored by Adventure East and takes place shortly after the land parade. People are welcome to bring their own non-motorized boat to the river behind The Mill at Shelburne Falls and join in the festivities, or people can reserve a free kayak or canoe, which they can decorate with their own supplies, by visiting Although the boats are free, they must be reserved in advance.

Parades aren’t the only thing going on at the celebration. Le Moulin, on the Buckland side of the river, will be full of activities and shops. The Mill’s Friday night events include a dance party and warm-up station in the community hall, open studios for artisans and tenant artists, an ornament painting workshop, a pop-up pottery sale and a fundraiser Pots for Pets at the Handle Factory Community Clay Studio. Money raised from the sale of second pottery – an imperfect ceramic usually sold at a discount – supports animal sanctuaries.

Carter said more than 17 craft vendors and even more food vendors will be set up along Bridge Street to shop for local Black Friday gifts. When people are too cold outside, they are invited to come to all the stores that will be open for the party.

Stores can enter a contest to determine the best Christmas window display.

“All store windows will be lit,” Carter said.

The village decorations were donated by the producers of the television series “Dexter: New Blood”, which was filmed in Shelburne Falls in 2021. The decorations were used as props to create a Christmas backdrop during filming.

For children of all ages, there will be an ornament scavenger hunt that will eventually lead to Santa’s Toy Chest, where participating children can choose a toy.

As for the food available, Carter said the Shelburne Falls Women’s Club will be selling freshly baked cookies to raise money for the Shelburne Falls Visitor Center. The West End Pub, which recently closed, will serve chili from its kitchen, and the Greenfield Cooperative Bank will offer hot apple cider.

Live music will be scattered throughout the village and singers will also be performing, Carter said.

At 9 p.m., when Moonlight Magic ends, there will be live music at Floodwater Brewing Co. and Sweetheart Restaurant for festival volunteers who have completed their shifts, as well as attendees who wish to continue the festivities. .
