The Saint-Laurent marathon returns in April with the big field

Cornwall Ontario – British Columbia. New Scotland. Virginia. Arizona. This is just a small sample of where runners are registering for the 2022 St. Lawrence Marathon on Saturday, April 30.

The popular race has already exceeded 485 registrations and 80% of participants come from outside the Cornwall area. The growing field includes competitors from across Ontario and Quebec as well as the Maritimes, Western Canada and even the United States.

“There’s a lot of interest in the race and it’s great to see so many out-of-town runners signing up,” race director Sebastian Warner said. “The marathon is a great opportunity to showcase our community and our waterfront to visitors. Of course local runners are always welcome and there is still plenty of room. We expect a field of 700 participants.

The race’s location, beauty and ease of access have made it a must-attend event for many. It’s also a Boston Qualifying Marathon, which many enjoy. The race follows the beautiful Riverside Trail – part of the larger Waterfront Trail – from Crysler Park Marina near Morrisburg to St. Lawrence College in Cornwall. In addition to the marathon, there are also half marathons (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km distances to challenge participants.

“We have a nice, safe course and it always generates positive feedback from visiting riders,” Warner added.

After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, spirits are high for the return of racing in 2022.

“We’re excited to bring the marathon back and get things back on track,” Warner said.
