Kane County took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single from Cornelius Randolph and a two-run homer from Jimmy Kerrigan.

Sherman Johnson’s RBI single in the top of the second made it 5-0.

The Goldeyes crumbled late in the third, drawing within 5-2 with RBI doubles from Raul Navarro and Max Murphy.

Both pitching teams settled down to the ninth. Landen Bourassa took over from Goldeyes starter Alex Manasa in second and allowed just one earned run in five innings of long relief.

Cougars starter Koby Bishop was waived after three innings, but the combination of Jack Fox, Jack Anderson, Ryan Richardson and CJ Carter combined for six innings to close the game.

Josh Rolette, who finished with three hits, had Kane County’s sixth and final run in the top of the ninth.

Fox was credited with the win, while Manasa soaked up the loss.

The Goldeyes are out Thursday and stay home for a three-game series starting Friday against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard on 93.7 FM.
