Altidore is Toronto’s second all-time top scorer with 79 goals in 173 total appearances. The Livingston, NJ native, who played seven seasons with the Reds, helped lead the TFC to the 2017 national treble but struggled to stay on the pitch in the past two seasons due to injuries, scoring five goals in total last season and two in 2020.

The Reds were looking to move Altidore, one of the club’s Nominated Players, after signing Italian winger Lorenzo Insigne, who will start playing with Toronto on July 1 after finishing the Serie A season with Napoli.

With Altidore still on the roster, the Reds have four DP players, one over the limit – Altidore, Insigne, Alejandro Pozuelo and the team’s latest acquisition, defender Carlos Salcedo, who TFC acquired from Tigres UANL .

The TFC did not comment on the Altidore report.
