There can be safe sports in ‘t Gat van Waalre. So surfers, canoeists and diners should be able to use the lake. This is the conclusion of a study commissioned by the municipal council of Waalre.

In ‘t Gat van Waalre there is a regular sewer overflow. At the same time, water sports are practiced there. Politicians have therefore called for an independent investigation to rule out whether or not he is responsible for surfing, canoeing, sailing or supp. So, research now shows that it can be done safely.

Swimming is however prohibited because there is always an overflow of sewage. Earlier, the city council already indicated that swimming is not responsible because of the concrete and debris that can protrude. It also remains forbidden to sail with a motorboat in ‘t Gat van Waalre. According to the researchers, “this does not fit with the use and experience of the lake”. Fishing with license and diving with derogation remain authorized.

Information panels
The City Council will soon consider the recommendations of the study. It is expected that the conclusions will be adopted. If this is the case, the municipality will install new information panels at the edge of the lake. In addition, a warning light will be installed on a sign on the boulevard. This light will come on when there is an overflow from the sewage system.
