Wayne Lee Stockton, 82, Roscommon, died on January 16, 2022 at his home in the presence and comfort of his family.
His family chose to remember him privately at this time. A private ceremony will be held at his home for his immediate family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 32121 Woodward Ave., Suite 350, Royal Oak, MI 48073. Arrangements were made by Funeral Directors Wagner and Walsh, Roscommon.
He was born on May 27, 1939 in Gladwin, son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Peck) Stockton. He and Beverly Short were married on November 18, 1961 in Higgins Lake.
Mr. Stockton was an Army paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. As a production foreman for Unocal, he was admired for his excellent safety record, loyalty and work ethic.
He excelled in athletics, repeatedly completing the AuSable Canoe Marathon in Grayling. He enjoyed running, playing football and cross-country skiing. Her greatest pleasure was watching her grandchildren compete in basketball and swimming.
A pioneer at heart, he loved the outdoors. He was a trout and walleye fishing enthusiast. He also enjoyed deer and raccoon hunting. He was truly his happiest in the woods.
He was also known as a generous man to all who met him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Before him in death were his parents; and his brother, Bob Stockton.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Beverly of Roscommon; children, Brett Stockton of Grayling and Kim (Tony) Stockton of Hale; grandchildren, Brett II, Carissa, Taylor (Jonathan), Normand and Emily; brother, Harold “Butch” (Phyllis) Stockton of Higgins Lake; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
